+I'll second this request.  See also [[todo/symlinks_to_symlinks_to_the_annex]] and [[todo/import_symlinks_when_importing_from_directory]].  Basic reason for wanting this is uniformity: it would help if operations worked the same way on symlinks as they do on originals.
